DESCRIPTION
Perennial desert shrub
Bright green, succulent, and grows to about a foot in height. Has 5 petal white flowers.
Plants appear to be small bushes with many branching stems and narrow leaves
Reproduces vegetatively as well as by seeds.
Can be toxic to livestock, but poisoning is rare due to bitter taste.
Roots can extend up to 20 feet
Short periods of moisture are sufficient to germinate
Most infestations occur in highly disturbed areas.

CONTROL
Must Kill Root System
– Mechanical control
unsuccessful unless integrated with other methods.
In it’s native range in Asia plowing to a depth of 8-10 inches followed by seeding
perennial grasses has had some success, but it’s not very feasible in our state.
– Biological control
There is no known pest or enemy to control this plant.
Healthy competitive plant populations may help.
—note most infestations are in highly disturbed areas.
– Chemical control
Herbicides can be effective and economical
for large infestations
Need to replace open space created.

RECOVERY SITE
Plant native or desirable grasses or vegetation.
Weeds love bare areas
Watch for re-sprouts
IMMEDIATELY kill any that show up.
Keep watch for minimum of 5 years
If ‘clean’ for 5 years in a row, probably ‘clear’
